Well I thought after my last post that we would be done with hospital visits for the month, but I was wrong. On Friday, July 7th, at about 3:30am David woke me up saying he had a bad pain in his belly. I was only half awake (and not super sympathetic) and told him to wake me up if it gets worse and I'll take him to the hospital. Well about half an hour later he woke me up saying the pain was getting worse. He called the nurse hotline and they recommended he come in. I didn't want the kids to wake up in the middle of the night and find both of us gone, and the girls can't read well enough that I could leave them a note, so I woke everyone up and we all got in the car to take David to the hospital. I walked him inside and made sure the nurses were taking care of him and then took the kids back home. David kept calling and texting me with updates. Turns out he had appendicitis and needed an emergency appendectomy! I had a little bit of a scramble trying to find a babysitter, and my dad was nice enough to come down and help out. I thought he would only need to stay until just after lunchtime (based on how things went after David got his gallbladder out), but because of some clerical holdups at the hospital he ended up staying until almost 8:00 that night! It was a crazy day and I was trying to organize things from the hospital, but it made it so nice that he was able to help us out.
So David has been in recovery for the last 2 weeks. He said this has been his hardest surgery to recover from so far. I told him in the hospital that he's run out of extra appendages! He could probably lose a toe or two, but if he loses any other body parts he's going to start having issues. He's gotten his gallbladder, tonsils, and now appendix out.
The day David got his appendix out we got a text from the mother of David's cello student. She knew Ava was getting her procedure done and asked how it was going. I told her it went well, but that David was in the hospital so he probably wouldn't be able to do lessons the next week. She was so nice and ended up bringing us a whole bunch of food the next day! And the next Tuesday, David's family pooled their money together and ordered a bunch of groceries to have delivered for us. That was also very much needed. I knew we needed groceries, but I was so busy running errands and delivering kids to various activities that I was too tired to actually do any grocery shopping so we were mostly eating Mac and Cheese and Ramen at that point. So thank you Clay family!

We finally had food in the house!
The last 2 weeks have felt like a blur of being busy and also feeling like I'm not getting anything done. Every day is so busy, but I also feel like I haven't accomplished anything. We have been able to go to my parents house and swim in their big pool, made a few trips to the library, played with friends, rode bikes, played games, been to the dentist, and so many other things! One thing that I've been reminded of this summer is that if no one else lived in the house it would stay pretty clean! During the school year our house actually stayed pretty clean, but this summer our house is a little bit of a disaster. We are constantly running out of clean dishes and clothes even though the dishwasher and washing machine are constantly running. There are always toys and shoes and clothes all over the house. But in a little over a month things will go back to being clean when everyone isn't at home all the time! Basically this summer has felt a little bit like our house is one big trash fire, so I'm hoping in the fall things will quiet down (knock on wood...)

While we were at the park we saw a mama duck with a bunch of ducklings! You can't really see them but it was super cute.

Swimming party for Grandpa's birthday! Nikki loves when the kids squirt water in her face. And they love getting to squirt water in her face.

I think Millie is looking forward to school starting more than anyone. She has been loved to death this summer!

You have had kind of a rough ride this summer. I'm not even going to say that I'm sure the worst is over, cause I don't want to tempt fate.
Also I think it's hilarious that you talked about coming to swim in my big pool and then there's a picture of that kiddie pool. LOL
Haha well that kiddie pool is pretty popular!
You deserve a vacation. A long one. We should plan a hen party to Utah or something! I hope your family stays healthy all year and you have lots of peaceful time at home doing diamond crafts or something!
