Well, as all of the people that read this blog already know, I'm pregnant! My due date is August 16th so right now I'm 10 weeks along. Here's the story of my first trimester.
In November, David kept telling me that I needed to take a pregnancy test because he "knew" I was pregnant. I blew it off because I kept hearing about how all these other women knew they were pregnant (extreme exhaustion, nausea, etc.) and I didn't feel any different. This went on for about 2 weeks. Finally, I decided to take the test. And it was positive. I'm not going to lie, it was the most terrifying moment of my life. I was going to take another test before I told David, just to make sure, but I couldn't keep it a secret for more than a few hours. David made me feel a little better and not so scared. I'm sure this makes me sound awful because I'm sure every other woman (especially LDS women) are always so excited about having a baby. I'm excited now! But it did take awhile.
So after I told David, I told him I wanted to take at least one more test, David wanted me to take 4 more tests, so I took 2 more and they were both very positive. It was then that we decided to tell our parents. This was the beginning of December. I wanted to go to the doctor before we started telling everyone else. I called the doctor after that, and she said I couldn't get in until Jan 9th! So we had to keep the secret for that long. It was not easy. Especially once the nausea hit...
December is one of the busiest months at my work. I had to work longer and longer hours as the month went by. December also happened to be the month when I started getting sick. A lot of women get morning sickness, well I got all day sickness. For pretty much the whole month of December, I felt sick all the time, but never threw up (no matter how much I wanted to). I didn't like to eat because thinking about eating made me feel disgusting. Pretty much the only thing I could eat was fruit and crackers. Working 50-60 hours a week (the whole time I was on my feet) and feeling that sick, I think I deserve some kind of award!
I was so glad when Christmas finally came and I got to take a break on our trip to Utah! Well, kind of a break. I worked so much that I think I made myself sick, and I got an awful cold just in time for Christmas! I was so nice, I even gave it to David! So our trip to Utah wasn't the most fun. We both had a terrible cold and I was still feeling gross, so we weren't much fun for the wedding (sorry Brian and Brittany!). We mostly staying in our "room" and tried to get sleep and just relax. So we were pretty boring.
January was much better. I was finally starting to get over the sickness, I could eat again (the most joyous feeling ever!), and we went to the doctor. It was exciting to see our baby! It was doing a little Gumby dance during the ultrasound (which makes me a little nervous that it's already so active), but it was still exciting. After the doctor, David decided to tell pretty much the entire Music Department at the college all our good news before I even told my sister (who teaches in the Music Department!) I had a little panic attack that she would find out from some random student before I got a chance to talk to her, so I rushed over to her house as soon as she was available to share the good news! I then had to take a trip to my other sisters house and tell her where she offered some maternity clothes and some very good advice. I'm glad I have my family so close to help me figure out how to handle this giant change to our lives. And any help I can get from my in-laws will be much appreciated as well!
Anyways, that's about it for now. I have to go to the bathroom ALL THE TIME and I can go from full to starving in about 45 minutes. So life isn't too much different yet, but I'm cherishing it as much as I can. Then our new adventure will start!

You are definitely not alone in feeling nervous/scared/"what-have-I-done" when seeing that positive staring back at you. I've been initially excited every time, only to go through like 2 weeks of "OH MY GOSH, I'M SO DUMB, I CAN'T DO THIS" crying and stressing and being sad a few weeks later. Usually when I start feeling gross. And then I start feeling better and slowly my attitude gets happy and positive.
PS - You DO deserve a medal for working so much during the 1st trimester. Holy cow, I usually pass out on the couch as much as possible.
You baby was doing a gumby dance? I need you to give me a demonstration so that I know what you mean.
And I'm so glad you finally told everyone. I was having a really hard time lying to everyone who kept asking me, "Are you SURE Abby isn't pregnant?"
We are very excited for you two! If you need any baby clothes, we've all been passing around the same ones since Zachary was born. Just let me know if you want us to send some your way when (if) you find out what you're having. Glad the sickness is passing--mine likes to stay through week 20 or so.
Congratulations! It was fun to read the break-down of events.
Congratulations, Abby and David! Hugz!
Yay! We are so excited for you guys! Don't even worry about "not being fun at our wedding" cause you definitely had a good excuse, and you stuck it out anyways! If I were you I would have wanted to yell "Back off I'm pregnant!" at everyone, especially when you were working those super long days in December! You definitely deserve a reward. Ahh I'm so excited for when the little one gets here! And we live so close so now we HAVE to come visit. Like for reals this time.
