This last week has brought some....fun...changes to my life. I have discovered that I am probably never going to get a good night's sleep for a very long time. Right now, I usually wake up every 1 or 2 hours at night because I get so uncomfortable and sore. Whichever side I lay on, after about an hour or 2, I feel like I'm getting bruises, especially on my hips. So I wake up a lot at night because I have to reposition myself and attempt to get comfortable again. I told my doctor about it and he said he'd never heard of that before, that most pregnant women don't have that much trouble sleeping till later and they usually just wake up because of back pain or the baby moving. But I talked to my visiting teacher last night (who is also pregnant) and she said she was having the same thing. She said she ordered a body pillow and told me she'd let me know if it helps at all! I was thinking about lining my whole side of the bed with an extra layer of pillows, but one body pillow might be less fussy.
Another reason I don't sleep well at night is because of another new development. I started having these terrible nightmares every night for the past week. On wednesday, after a particularly bad night, I ended up telling David about them and was crying the whole morning (which actually isn't that unusual because I cry a lot anyways and it is always made worse when I don't get a lot of sleep). He was very nice about it and bought me a treat and helped talk me into a better mood. But I wake up a lot because of those nightmares. I told my visiting teacher about this too, and she said she had heard of it a lot. They aren't nightmares about having babies, they are all just really violent and dark. I think they're getting better, though. Either that or I have just been so exhausted that my body won't allow me to wake up. This is one thing that I really hope goes away fast.
So between those 2 things and the fact that I have to get up and go to the bathroom and am growing a person, I am very tired. But I still make myself go to work every day and play in the symphony because I figure that when the baby comes, I'm still going to be tired and I don't want to stop enjoying what I love just because I'm tired! It's just good practice for when the baby does get here, or at least that's what I keep telling myself.
On a happier note, my stomache has popped this last week. Before it just kind of looked like I had eaten to much or that I had let myself go after getting married, but now it is a for real baby bump! I'm glad about that because I was starting to feel self-conscious because I just looked pudgy. Although, right now I'm at the in-between stage where I'm almost too big for regular jeans but not big enough for maternity pants. It's fine most of the time, except when I'm sitting in rehearsal for symphony and can't recline back or anything for 2.5 hours. My mom said I should start wearing dresses, but it's still snowy and cold! So I'll keep that for my backup plan in case I get desperate.
Oh, and we find out the gender on March 25th (Mom, I know I told you the 28th but I was wrong), so that's something to look forward to! You could probably all make your guesses now! I told David if it's a girl he has to buy me shoes and if it's a boy then I have to get him sushi. I don't care either way, but David wants a boy and I just want to disagree with him to be annoying. So my next post (because I don't post very often) will probably be the gender! Yay for us!

Recap
I want to get down just a few things that have happened the last few weeks. The end of January, I ended up taking some engagement pictures for one of my good friends. It was a freezing cold morning and they were really good sports about it! I might post some of the pictures later. I love taking pictures, but I don't love the editing. That's part of the reason it costs so much to get your picture taken, because you are also paying for the editing time. So I had that going on first.
Then, the beginning of February, my dad got a call that said his mother, my grandmother, was in the hospital and probably wouldn't be coming out. My dad is from Seattle and that's where most of his family is. He knew he had to get up there quickly so that he could be able to see her before she died. For those of you who don't know, my grandma was one of the funniest, quirkiest people I knew, but she was not in good health. My dad is the only member of our church in his family. So because my grandma wasn't LDS, she smoked and drank coffee all her life. She also had diabetes. And a lot of other health complications that surfaces as she reached the end of her life. But through it all, she still remained as spunky as ever. We usually described her as a 60 pound, 5 foot tall woman who smoked like a chimney and swore like a sailor. That's the most accurate description you will find! Even though she wasn't a member, she still respected our family and the choices we made. Especially when it came to getting an education and not living with our boyfriends before we got married. Right after she became mostly unresponsive, my dad managed to find some alone time with her and give her a priesthood blessing. I think that's one of the sweetest things he could've done for her. I know her death was very hard on my dad because he tried to stay as close to her as possible. He called her every week and drove up to washington any time she needed help of any kind. It was a very sad weekend, but also stressful because of what happened next. My grandma died on a saturday, and my new nephew was born on that next tuesday! We all joked about how she was giving him lessons on how to be a true Mitchell.
My sister-in-law Emily had a very up and down pregnancy. I'm not going to go into all the details, but basically she was having a lot of RH factor problems. She has negative blood and the baby has positive. A recipe for disaster. I have actually always heard that that's why my dad has hearing problems, because of that same situation. Anyways, they live in Wyoming about 2 or 3 hours away from Rexburg. They were planning on having the baby in Jackson, but found out the night before the scheduled C-section that the hospital wasn't equipped to handle her situation and they would have to go to University of Utah or come to Idaho Falls. They chose Idaho Falls which meant that we could all help out as much as possible. My brother was able to be there for the procedure and to see the baby for a little, but then had to leave with one of their sons to go back to Wyoming. He had already used up all of the sick days for work because of all the other doctor appointments. While Emily was in the hospital and David was back in Wyoming, their (now) middle son Zach was pretty much homeless. He was staying with my parents, but since both of my parents work, we all got a chance to help out and babysit! He is actually a really good boy, but none of us are really prepared to deal with children of that age yet! 2 of us girls don't have kids and the other one has a 4 month old, so it was quite a change and very exhausting. This wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't fall on the same week as the Idaho Falls Symphony concert!
On wednesday of that week, I had to leave to go to my parent's house at 8:30 so I could babysit Zach. I left at 11:45 so I could go to work at noon. I left work at 6 so I could be home by 6:10 so we could leave for rehearsal. We didn't get home from rehearsal till 10:30. So from 8:30 in the morning till 10:30 at night, I spent a total of 10 seconds actually in my apartment. I love playing in the symphony and I wouldn't give it up for anything short of a major emergency, but that week was so tiring. We had 2 rehearsals and a concert, I worked about 25 hours, and watched Zach for about 10ish hours. It was a very full week.
I was supposed to play piano in church that weekend as well, but I knew there was no way I would be able to find time to practice and I would probably play horrible because there were so many other things going on. I told David that that was one of the weeks when we should've been on the relief society compassionate service list and had people bring us food or clean the house or something. Because our diet consisted of Raman and crackers and we were both lucky to have any clean clothes or dishes. David was really good throughout it all. He knows that family is the most important thing to me, so when my family is going through a hard time, I'm going through a hard time. And being pregnant doesn't help. I cry a lot. Like when I couldn't find chocolate chips at Wal-Mart. It's easy to feel overwhelmed. So he tries to help me calm down and see that everything is going to work out and that the house doesn't need to be clean, that this is one of those weeks when it can just be ignored.
Things are better now. The baby is still in the NICU, but doing well! I have to play piano this week, so I'm not looking forward to that. But things are returning to normal. We had a relaxing Valentines where I worked for 10 hours, we went grocery shopping, then fell asleep at 9 while watching a movie. But it was good. Now we're off to do weather and get a pop! So the weekend is starting off good!

When it rains...
There are so many things I've been wanting to write about just to get my feelings out, but it seems like every time I try, something else comes up. This past week or so has been full of a lot of ups and downs. Lots of family emergencies that we all needed to try to pick up the slack and help each other out, and lots of planning for my own little family that have been slowly but surely taking shape. I don't mind helping out when my family needs help because, lets face it, that's what family is for. And also, I know that when (not if) we need help, I don't want people to do it begrudgingly because they felt like I never helped them.
It's been an emotional week and I feel like everything I had planned to do by Monday still hasn't gotten done. I guess that's life though. But I'm glad that we are close to my family during this time because I'm glad we were able to help out the little that we were. It's been an exhausting week, but it's almost over! And we have a concert tomorrow night, which is always something to look forward to! A good end to a roller coaster week.

Well Since Everybody Knows Already....
Well, as all of the people that read this blog already know, I'm pregnant! My due date is August 16th so right now I'm 10 weeks along. Here's the story of my first trimester.
In November, David kept telling me that I needed to take a pregnancy test because he "knew" I was pregnant. I blew it off because I kept hearing about how all these other women knew they were pregnant (extreme exhaustion, nausea, etc.) and I didn't feel any different. This went on for about 2 weeks. Finally, I decided to take the test. And it was positive. I'm not going to lie, it was the most terrifying moment of my life. I was going to take another test before I told David, just to make sure, but I couldn't keep it a secret for more than a few hours. David made me feel a little better and not so scared. I'm sure this makes me sound awful because I'm sure every other woman (especially LDS women) are always so excited about having a baby. I'm excited now! But it did take awhile.
So after I told David, I told him I wanted to take at least one more test, David wanted me to take 4 more tests, so I took 2 more and they were both very positive. It was then that we decided to tell our parents. This was the beginning of December. I wanted to go to the doctor before we started telling everyone else. I called the doctor after that, and she said I couldn't get in until Jan 9th! So we had to keep the secret for that long. It was not easy. Especially once the nausea hit...
December is one of the busiest months at my work. I had to work longer and longer hours as the month went by. December also happened to be the month when I started getting sick. A lot of women get morning sickness, well I got all day sickness. For pretty much the whole month of December, I felt sick all the time, but never threw up (no matter how much I wanted to). I didn't like to eat because thinking about eating made me feel disgusting. Pretty much the only thing I could eat was fruit and crackers. Working 50-60 hours a week (the whole time I was on my feet) and feeling that sick, I think I deserve some kind of award!
I was so glad when Christmas finally came and I got to take a break on our trip to Utah! Well, kind of a break. I worked so much that I think I made myself sick, and I got an awful cold just in time for Christmas! I was so nice, I even gave it to David! So our trip to Utah wasn't the most fun. We both had a terrible cold and I was still feeling gross, so we weren't much fun for the wedding (sorry Brian and Brittany!). We mostly staying in our "room" and tried to get sleep and just relax. So we were pretty boring.
January was much better. I was finally starting to get over the sickness, I could eat again (the most joyous feeling ever!), and we went to the doctor. It was exciting to see our baby! It was doing a little Gumby dance during the ultrasound (which makes me a little nervous that it's already so active), but it was still exciting. After the doctor, David decided to tell pretty much the entire Music Department at the college all our good news before I even told my sister (who teaches in the Music Department!) I had a little panic attack that she would find out from some random student before I got a chance to talk to her, so I rushed over to her house as soon as she was available to share the good news! I then had to take a trip to my other sisters house and tell her where she offered some maternity clothes and some very good advice. I'm glad I have my family so close to help me figure out how to handle this giant change to our lives. And any help I can get from my in-laws will be much appreciated as well!
Anyways, that's about it for now. I have to go to the bathroom ALL THE TIME and I can go from full to starving in about 45 minutes. So life isn't too much different yet, but I'm cherishing it as much as I can. Then our new adventure will start!

Work Work Work!
Christmas is the busiest time of year at Florences. In one day, we made almost $11,000, just on chocolates! I've heard that chocolate sales are recession-proof and I believe it. Everyone is willing to buy a little bit of their favorite treats, even when money is tight. Almost everyone there has been working overtime. We get so many orders from businesses getting something for their employees or clients or people just getting a little something for their friends and family! It's good to spread the Christmas cheer, but it makes me very tired. In the last 2 weeks, with all 3 of my jobs combined, I worked 115 hours. Let me tell you something, I am exhausted! I think I'm more excited than anyone for Christmas to get here. Needless to say, my house is not clean, I don't remember the last time I cooked, and David has been feeling a little neglected (expecially since he's out of school and spends all day at home alone). But there are some good things that come with working that hard:
-We have money to pay our bills! That's always a good thing.
-I have gotten to know so many different kinds of people and hear a little bit about their lives. Some of it is very interesting. I like hearing other people's stories.
-I have pushed past what I thought was my limit and am realizing I can do more than I thought I could (although I couldn't do it all year long, sorry Dad)
I'm sure there are more, but right now I'm kind of on veg-out mode. I have one more day of crazy schedule till next Christmas! Anyways, that's why I haven't been blogging, or playing Scrabble, or cleaning my house. So I'm looking forward to a break for Christmas and then a trip to Utah!

Funny Little Things
I have to share a quick story. David and I were watching a movie last night and David fell asleep half way through. I quickly made him get up and move to the bed so that it wouldn't be as much of a struggle since he was still a little coherent. We got in bed and I had a hard time falling alseep. About 30 minutes after we went to bed I bumped David while turning over and he woke up a little. This conversation followed:
Me: Oh, sorry!
David (sitting up a little and looking very confused): Where are....where are the....the.....
Me (knowing David is still dreaming): It's ok, just go back to sleep.
David (still very confused): But where are the fishies?
Me (trying very hard not to laugh, but still knowing he's dreaming): David, just go back to sleep.
David: But where are the fishies??
Me (laughing even harder): We don't have any fishies.
David (getting very upset and almost crying): NO!!! But why?!
Me: I'm sorry David, we don't have any.
David: But they're always here!!!!
Me (trying not to let David see me laughing because I'm afraid he'll start crying): It's ok David. Just go back to sleep.
David (laying back down and kind of falling alseep, while wimpering this): But where are the fishies? Where are they?
I was trying so hard not to laugh, but it was very difficult! I always try to figure out why David dreams about the things he does, and I think this happened because we were watching the first X-Men and a man turns into a fish-person and that's about when David fell asleep. Anyways, it sure made my night!

The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad...Week....
This week has been...difficult...It's one of those weeks where every single thing that I try to do ends up falling to pieces. Monday and Tuesday were just some of those days where I wasn't feeling great about life. Wednesday was where things started getting worse. I was still feeling not so great about life and then I couldn't find my wedding ring. I usually take it off when I do dishes or anything that will get it really dirty but I always know where it is. Not that day. I was worried, but I knew it was somewhere in our apartment so I knew I could find it later. I was getting ready to go to work and realized I didn't have any jeans that didn't have a hole in them. But luckily my mom had called saying that she had finished hemming some jeans I had given her a few weeks earlier. So I pulled on my capri's (which I didn't really want to wear because it had been snowing all morning) and some cowboy boots. The reason for the cowboy boots is because I didn't want to wear my flats out in the 5 inches of snow and those were the only other boots I had. Needless to say, I looked ridiculous. So I headed out the door to my first job. That job is kind of weird. I go up to this weather station that records data like wind speed, precipitation, and temperature and I submit that data to NOAA. To get to the weather station, you have to go down this dirt road, up a little hill, and down the other side. I thought while driving up the hill that I should stop at the top so I don't get my car stuck. I usually have to take the Bronco and it does not do so well in the snow. But I ignored the feeling and drove down. I'm sure you can guess what happened. I got stuck. Not just kind of stuck, I was essentially trapped. I was also by myself and there was almost no way for anyone else to see me to help. I tried for 30 minutes to get myself out. After that I burst into tears and called my mom. David was in class so I knew he wouldn't be able to help. My mom was very understanding and told me she would try to get my dad to come help. After I hung up I decided that I would try one more time to get out and 15 minutes later, I was out! My mom came and gave me my jeans and everything was ok. Later that night I realized I lost my chapstick so that was kicking me while I was down, which I did not appreciate. I did find my ring later that night.
Thursday was also very fun. I had a dentist appointment. I hate the dentist. A lot. I wasn't there 15 minutes when I was told that I had a cavity starting and they would have to fix it. The first cavity I've ever had and it had to be this week. I almost started crying in the chair. The only time they could do the filling is right before I have to work on Monday, so I'm anticipating that Monday won't go too well either. My mouth hurt for pretty much the rest of the day, I think I have a sensitive mouth.
Friday night was probably the worst of it. I worked from 1 to 6 and then we had to leave at 6:30 because the Idaho Falls Symphony had a concert that night. I didn't have time to eat anything so I was hungry and tired but I love playing in concerts so I was trying to be really happy. We were getting our instruments out and I, being the incredibly clumsy person I am, dropped my bow. When I went to pick it up, I saw that the tip had broken off. I stood there in disbelief at what had just happened. I turned to Lisa and just showed her my bow because I didn't know what to say. My mind was totally blank. She must've understood what was going on because she immediately started saying things like "it's ok, don't worry, it can be fixed, we'll just have to find you a bow for tonight" which put me into a panic because for some reason I didn't even realize that I had nothing to play with for the concert in 30 minutes. But one good thing about having 30 people witness it was I had about 3 people offer me their extra bows! I was very appreciative of the girl who lent me hers and of Lisa who was my bouncer and kept everyone from making a big deal about it which would've sent me into a fit of tears very easily. I was in shock pretty much all night and did not play very well at the concert. But Lisa bought me dinner, David bought me a pop, and I stayed up late eating my feelings.
The next day at work, I managed to burn the tips of my fingers (which didn't even bother me because I knew something bad had to happen) and I was worried that it would hurt playing in the concert we had tonight, but it didn't bother me too bad. And then when I got home and was curling my hair I burned my neck pretty bad and at that point I wanted to give up at life completely, but I didn't. We played the concert and it was amazing. I played very well tonight and I got to play in the Barrus Concert Hall which is a wonderful hall and I don't get to play in it any more because I'm graduated.
Anyways, things are better now. I don't know if it's because I've become immune to feeling or because of some other reason. But I'm really hoping next week goes better. Lisa said as my Christmas present she would get my bow fixed. That made me really happy. She said that when I get it fixed, I would also get it re-haired, so that's a plus! In fact, on Wednesday I was telling David that I needed to get it re-haired soon. I just didn't expect it to happen like that.
Lots of Changes!
I wanted to put a few pictures on here of things that have been happening in my life! For the last 4 1/2 years I worked at a food place that served pretzels and frozen custard and things like that. But things have changed! I now exclusively work at a place called Florence's Exquisite Candies! (it used to be called Mom's Kandy Kitchen) They serve the best chocolates I've ever eaten. It's a terrible place to work because I just eat chocolate all day long. Here are some pictures of shop. They redid all the decorations about 5 years ago and it's super cute.
David also had the annual Halloween concert at the college. It's the one concert where the whole orchestra dresses up in costume and it's basically a mini play. There's usually a plot and the conductor is the main character. They played Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. The plot of the concert was like A Christmas Carol but for Halloween. It was pretty funny! Part of the cello section dressed up as characters from The Wizard of Oz and David got picked to be the Wizard. Here's his costume!
The day before Halloween we had a rehearsal with the Idaho Falls Symphony. They told us that we could dress up if we wanted and about half the symphony did! As part of Crochet Olympics (something me, my sister, and Mom still do) I made this hat. It's supposed to be the Treehugger from the movie The Lorax (I've never actually seen the movie) and I think it turned out pretty good! It got quite a few comments and most people loved it. I wore it to work all Halloween too! The week before in Crochet Olympics, we did wrist-warmers and Lisa had to do some with kitty paws on them, so she crocheted some ears and a tail and was a cat for the rehearsal! Her costume was really good! It's been an interesting few weeks around here and hopefully it will keep getting better!

This is one of the back kitchens where they make caramels and fudge. It gets very messy....

This is where they dip the chocolates. It's fun to see them all covered in chocolate and making all the clusters! Oh yeah, and I made those chocolate suckers on the counter there.

They wanted to make this part look like Italy, I think they did a pretty good job!

The front counter! This is where I spend most of my time. That case is full of chocolate!

This is a random tree that has lots of little candies in all the nooks and crannies.

This is probably the most popular decoration! Since we use Swiss chocolate they decorated this like the Swiss Alps. Everyone loves the castle, especially the little kids!

Ledger
My sister Joni had a baby about a month ago. It is her first child and we are so excited to have this new addition to the family! These are some pictures I took for her. So here he is, little Ledger!

Another Concert!
This will be a short post because I'm still recovering from the last few weeks. I am now working 3 jobs and have very little free time. Well, I did. The place that I work is changing things around and yesterday was the last day as a fast food place, it's now all Florences Chocolates! I'm pretty excited because my job will get a million times easier and I won't have to work nights any more. I also play in the Idaho Falls Symphony and work a little bit for my sister doing cleaning stuff. So anyways, I'm glad that my 12 hours workdays will stop for awhile.
The concert last night was amazing! We played Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture (which I'd never heard before but loved it instantly), Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2 (with a guest artist who plays amazingly), and Brahm's Symphony #2. It was a huge concert that took a lot of preparation and concentration, but it was all worth it. No one played perfect, but I think overall we all felt good about it. After the Rachmaninoff, the guest artist played an encore piece. It's aparently well known by everyone but me, but I loved it. It just made me feel at peace with everything. I forgot what was going on with everything else in my life and was able to just appreciate beautiful music. This isn't who played with us, but it's the same arrangement. It's Bach "Sheep May Safely Graze". Hope it makes your day a little bit brighter!
