Post-Wedding

Ok, so after we got married, we basically just went on our honeymoon.  We didn't have the reception till 3 weeks later and it was on Memorial Day weekend so not many people were able to make it, but it was still wonderful!  My mom did such an amazing job!  So I have to tell you a few stories of our honeymoon because it was...interesting.  The first night we stayed in Butte, Montana at a pretty awesome hotel!  It was a super old motel, probably built in the 20's.  The ceilings were all very high (which I love because sometimes I get a little claustrophobic), there were huge pillars everywhere (also very cool) and the thing that really tipped the scale was a huge ballroom they had.  I wish I would've taken pictures of it!  It was beautiful and I told David I wished we had something like that in Rexburg for special events.  We both just really liked the feel of it.  We were going to go back there for our 1 year anniversary, but we can't really afford it right at the moment.  Maybe at the end of the summer!

The next night was....different.  We drove up to Coeur d'Alene and tried to find what we thought was going to be a good hotel.  A little back story on that.  We didn't have a lot of money to spend on our honeymoon so we were looking up all sorts of hotels and most of them were out of our price range.  Then we found one that was in our price range and it got really good reviews.  We even looked at a few different sites to make sure it was a good deal.  Everyone on there said it was a fantastic place to stay!  So we booked it.  Fast forward to a few weeks later when we pulled up to the place, and even on the outside it looked fine.  Then we step inside.  The first thing we noticed was the wall of smoke that hit our faces.  They had a smoking floor and a non-smoking floor, but the smoking floor just happened to be underneath the non-smoking floor so all the smoke just came up anyways.

You could tell everything was just super run-down.  And that people that stayed there just trashed everything.  The front desk attendant wasn't the nicest, but eventually we found our luxurious honeymoon suite!  Right across the hall from the construction guys that were living there while finishing a job.  These guys liked to get drunk every night and come back to the hotel trying to make as much noise as they could.  Yay!

We tried to make the best of our situation and just have fun.  We drove around a lot and looked at all the huge houses around the lake (one of our favorite things to do is just go on drives), we went on a nature hike in our flip-flops (not the funnest...) and then we walked around the mall there.  That was when we found the 2 coolest stores ever!  The first one had all sorts of weird, cool things.  I remember my mom telling me that her aunt (?) wanted to open a store that sold all sort of little trinkets and the store would be called "Marvelous Junk".  That's basically what this store was!  While we were there I bought my grandma a little bottle of fairy dust for her birthday.  It was fun!  The second store was the coolest toy store.  There were all these wooden toys that made lots of noise and the bathroom had glow in the dark stars on the ceiling!  We had a lot of fun playing in there.

I had my birthday while we were up there and David did a very good job about making it fun!  He took me to IHOP (which I had only been there once before) and then later that night we had the best meal I'd ever eaten.  We went to a little, locally owned Greek restaurant.  We ordered lamb and some type of ravioli dish.  We were both in heaven!  I'm normally not one to get all excited about salads, but it was the best salad I'd ever eaten.  We even bought a container of the dressing so we could have it at home!  My birthday is on Cinco De Mayo, and there is actually quite a big population of Hispanics up there. While we were at dinner, the only parking place we could find was in front of this hispanic club celebrating Cinco De Mayo.  When we parked, there were a bunch of guys standing on the sidewalk standing next to our car drinking and smoking.  They looked a little...rough around the edges and I honestly thought we would come back with our car keyed or something like that.  But nothing happened and it all went fine!

So there were a few things that happened at the hotel that we still laugh at.  The first one is a lady that was ALWAYS sitting outside the door that led to the parking lot.  Every time she saw us she would ask us if we wanted a smoke or if we wanted to go with her to the casino that night.  We politely refused, but she kept asking. Then there was the time we were getting back to the hotel.   We were sitting in the car when I look over and some guy is standing outside the passenger door, and I couldn't see what he was doing, but some sort of fur or cloth or something fuzzy kept falling at his feet.  I turned to David and asked "Is he skinning an animal?  In his car?  In the parking lot?"... which to this day I'm about 80% sure he was.  Then the last night we were there, I thought my life was going to end.  We got to our room at about 8pm.  An hour or so later, we hear the guys across from us getting back.  There were a few girls with them because I could hear them laughing.  As the minutes went by, we could hear their voices getting louder and louder until the guys were yelling at each other, the girls were screaming, and David and I were praying no one would pull a gun.  A fist fight started, more screaming, and we hid in the bed, still praying no one would pull a gun.  We could hear the cops show up and they were all talking and yelling for an hour or so after that.  And then we came home!  Yay!  Needless to say it was exciting!

Life's pretty good now and we're just hoping that we can always look back on awkward times like that and just laugh about it.  Here's looking to many more years to come!

Props for our Photo Booth!

The Photo Booth!  It was a lot of fun!

Paul, Alyssa, and Paul's mom really helped us out that night.

Thank you so much for coming!

I really loved my cake.
